Cardboard box assembly adhesive evaluation/calculation

I want to reduce adhesive consumption of one packaging process. The box of cardboard is filled with product, glued up and instantly tapped over the gap. It seems that glue is not necessary at all since tape alone could withstand the weight. Anyhow, is there a way to do some theoretical calculations for the adhesive, i.e. find shear forces, etc. so that I would have something to base my conclusions on.
