I'm looking for information regarding cast aluminum mechanical properties versus temperature for the temperature range of -40°C - + 70°C. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Specifically I'm looking for information for 356A and alloy 360.

Thanks for the link. This military spec provides lots of helpful info but all properties (except thermal expansion) are stated as at room temperature. Where can I find info on properties at other temperatures? Does this have to be experimentally obtained?

I've got a book at home by Kaiser Aluminum (long out of print) that should have some of what you want. I will take a look when I get home. The mech properties will most likely be typicals rather than minimums, however.

Boldfish,
Depending on the geometry of your cast component, you may have to consider the possible occurance of porosity, it'll seriously deteriote the mechanical property.

Here is what I found:
For 360 die cast
UTS 48.5 ksi @ -112F; 47.5ksi@ -18F;44 ksi @ +212F
TYS 27ksi @-112F; 28ksi@ -18F; 25ksi@ +212F
%E 4 @ -112F; 4 @ -18F; 2@ +212F

For 356-T7, sand cast
UTS 35 ksi @ -112F; 33ksi @ -18F; 30ksi @+ 212F
TYS 28.5ksi @ -112F; 27.5ksi @ -18F; 28ksi @ +212F
%E 3 @ -112F; 3 @ -18F; 2 @ +212F

These are all typical values, not guaranteed minimums.
