Cast Iron column properties 4

We are checking an old building 4 storey building of brick/steel frame construction. Columns internally appear to be cast iron circular hollow sections. Any pointers on technical info/properties of cast iron columns? Building is in UK but any useful info on cast iron columns would be a starter.

There are several other articles available; I've got a few at the office. Please let me know if this doesn't suit and I'll see about posting some others for you. There are also a few books that come to mind. Unfortunately I'm making this post from home and won't be back into the office until Tuesday next week...

There is an english book called 'structural renovation of historic structures' or something like that, put out by IStructE I think - it has a section on cast iron columns.

Many thanks for that - that was very useful and a lot of what I was looking for. Anything else you might have would be greatly appreciated as it seems I ll be running into these old structures quite a bit. If not, thanks again, that was great.

Thanks - I looked into "Structural renovation of Buildings" book I had - had some info but not really very technical. I think book you mentioned is a different one - will look for it
