we are searching for a cast iron grade (alloy if so) that has a maximum service temp. of 1500 F or greater. searched Matweb & could only find 1350F.

Does anyone know of a grade that meets this crteria?

Thanks.

The only CI alloy with any possibilities for use at your temperature is Nicrosilal, a high Nickel and Silicon, alloy. Here are others that can approach you temperature requirements.
It would be helpful if you could post the end use of the material in question as many things will preclude the use of CI at your temperature.

Thanks.

The end use is in a carbon bake furnace flue port cover. They have used cast iron in the past, but we are not sure of the alloy or grade.

One last thing that may make a difference. They tend to experience some thermal shock as they pull these out every so often to swap them around (ie. putting in a thermocouple or gas injector).

Thanks

As ed suggests rightly, for such high temperature application it can be a D1 or D2 type of Niresist iron.

Thanks guys. You have been a tremendous help.

A spectro test is cheaper than a lot of people think as well. If in doubt, just give an appropriate materials testing lab a sample.

I've seen situations where a part was about to be replaced with a relatively standard stainless grade and the spectro test showed the original part to be monel. Cost us about US$150 for the test and saved us a lot of heartache.
