I want to voltage bias a CAT DVR ( P/N:155-3835) with an Easygen 3000 series controller, does anybody know what voltage signal to use on the Easygen and where to land the output to the DVR? Will I need to install resistor/s in the circuit, if so what size? When in base load mode will I need to modify the signal to the DVR or will the Easygen still drive the DVR? Any issues with cross current compensation with this setup?

Thx in advance,
JCA

Here is the instruction for interfacing a CAT DVR (not CDVR) with a Woodward DSLC. Interface for an easygen pretty much the same, set the easygen for a plus/minus 9 VDC bias range.

You need to make sure you disable cross current when using the easygen bias to control PF/VAR's or you will get poor operation. I assume you have cross current setup to parallel multiple units when NOT connected to the grid. Not enough info on your system to provide an exact answer, but should work ok.

The manual/woodward suggest 0-4VDC with 2VDC as the zero bias...is it better to use 9VDC instead? On the Easygen I can set the 4VDC as a user defined parameter for better biasing.

Thx Mike...did you work for Cummins in CO?

My EasyGen interface files are actually pretty old, and I haven't done one for about 3 years. When they first came out their voltage regulator bias output options were pretty much in line with the EGCP-2. Most systems I do use DSLC's and more recently DSLC II's these days. If the EasyGen has a 0-4VDC option now it would likely be better, and you could get rid of the resistors. Have you contacted Woodward to see what their recommendation is for your part and revision number EasyGen to a DVR? Also, what revision manual are you looking at? I like the EasyGen but have found their documentation to be tough compared to their older technical publications.

I know the DSLC interface worked on early version EasyGens, I did it on a four unit site about 5 years ago, but since then all the voltage regulators on the units got upgraded to CAT CDVR's. Most of the time I used EasyGens since the gensets had VR6 regulators or CDVR's.

Just a reminder, the DVR is pretty touchy about over-driving the adjustment input, we killed quite a few of them over the years with DSLC's and Basler SCP250's they didn't get setup exactly right. Since you're adding an EasyGen to a unit with a DVR I'm assuming this is some kind of retrofit?

No, never directly worked for Cummins Rocky Mountain, have done some work for Cummins, mostly on switchgear or interface jobs but mostly on the West coast.

Hope that helps, Mike L.
