i am new to catia and have some questions.

1.what is the most complete surfacing workbench in catia which has all it's surfacing features for industrial design? (wireframe workbench,GSD workbench ,...)

2.is there a way to create a customized toolbar with commands belonging to several workbenches in one place and work with them in a single workbench eg creaing a toolbar containing both part design workbench features and wireframe workbench commands together, or you have to switch back and forth in workbenches if you wanna create a hybrid design and use both workbenches features?

3. when will catia v6 hit the market?

Hi,

1. What workbenches (licenses) are available for you? How much money do you want to invest? Depend on that you can get an answer...
2. Yes, it can be done, I have a document showing how to but for the time being ENGINEERING.com its giving me an error no meter what kind of document I want to upload.....
3.

at this time i am benchmarking cad apps on surfacing tools without the buzz of resellers. so feel free to compare and comment on different catia surfacing workbenches. i still do not a own a catia seat.
back at the university we used solidworks software, that was pretty straight forward and simple to use. later i attended a conference on catia, it seemed pretty strong but i couldn't see from the far distance what workbench the guy was working on! but the guy was constantly changing workbenches! that was weird for me.

I agree that SW is a friendly software but CATIA its definitely more powerful...

Here you have an old article about these softwares which partialy remain true (in my opinion)
In the new releases there are a lot of changes... see an example here
A simple search on YouTube can give you an idea
Choosing a license its also depending on what you want to do, for what industry you are working a.s.o.

Fernando

We maybe should start with.... what do you want to design/style?? This is question is very important due to several styling workbenches in catia aimed for different industries.

thanks ferdo for your guidance.
as far as i know there are several surfacing workbenches including: wireframe and surface design,GSD,Imagine and shape, freestyle, and automotive class A.
narrowing down the discussion by puting aside automotive class A and free form clay like modeling,i guess that GSD is the most powerfull among them in terms of general/traditional surfacing tools. correct?
can GSD create G3 surface patches and blends? and i guess it supports 3d splines.

Thanks again fernando,i got your tutorial on customizing the toolbars.
