Hi,
What is the main difference between Design and Visualization Mode?

Thank you,

In visualisation mode, only the visual properties are loaded so large assemblies can be examined and presented without hassle.
Design mode loads all the parametric and other data used for designing the parts.

In Design mode, all the mathematical data is loaded and displayed, for easy editing of parts. Larger/complex can slow the system down.

Visualization mode displays the tessalated (triangles) version of the shape geometry for faster loading and performance, but no editing can be done. This lightweight data is called CGR (CATIA Graphical Representation).

Thank you both for your replies!

In 3DX, by default, everything is loaded in "visualization mode" (but I would suggest using the Product Finder app, it works better than opening directly an assembly). To have the equivalent of Design Mode in v5, you need to "Switch to edit mode" for whatever you need.

Regards
Fernando
