CATIA R12SP4 to Unigraphics NX2

We have a supplier who is unable to read our CATIA STEP files (203 or 214) successfully into UG NX2. They say there are a number of surfaces importing untrimmed.

However, if we take the same STEP file to Solidworks and create a Parasolid, then import to UG, it works fine.

Any ideas of how to make the STEP import correctly?

While I am not that familiar with SolidWorks, the first thought that I had was this:

Convert the UG part to Parasolid. Open it in SolidWorks. Export STEP file from SolidWorks.

Another option would be to convert the UG part to Parasolid. Import the Parasolid into a new UG part. Export new UG part to STEP.

Did the UG folks increase (allow for larger gaps) their modeling tolerances to see if that had any effect on the untrimmed results? Did they give you any feedback as far as what messages they were seeing as the STEP files were being imported into UG? Was the STEP of a solid, joined surfaces or just trimmed surfaces? Were the surfaces B-surfaces after being imported into UG or were they NURBS surfaces? What type of surfaces were they coming out of CATIA? Were the surfaces modeled with a tight tolerance in CATIA?

Personally, I'd stick with the Parasolid model, as that is native UG math, whereas STEP has different 'flavors', depending upon the software from which it was exported.
