Back in the Pro/E world I had start parts and start assemblies in Metric and English units. Is it possible to create something like this in the CATIA world?

I've made a start part in R17 and saved it to my local disk. I opened it and then did a save as to a new part number. Is this the procedure I would use?

Elaborate on your experiences if you can. Thanks...

All CATIA V5 documents are stored in millimeters internally. The units are only in the interface.

Dimensions on Drawings are controlled thru the Drafting Standards. You can set up two Drafting standards, one for metric units and one for english units.

I use a template to start all of my new CATParts and CATProducts. I like the fact that when you do a File -> New From, and rename the part in the tree, it auto-fills the part name when you save it.

I probably didn't understand your question completely - did you want a drawing with dual units on the print?

No, no drawings needed. We don't use them here. All 3D.

It looks like File/New From is going to work.

I'd be interested in what parameters or other info people embed in their start parts/products.

Thanks...

Hi,

I'm assuming that you know about this
Depend on what kind of part/product you are working on.

For products we are using some CATScripts to speed up loading different sections of the airplanes, or ATA chapters or MG or whatever...

For parts its a good idea to use a part made with Power Copies (brackets for example) - like everybody mention before.

No I was not aware of this FAQ. Must not have had the correct forum search terms.

Thanks..
