First and foremost I am not a catia user. I am a vendor of machinery into the composite and graphics industry. So pardon my lack of technical terminology or in depth understanding of Catia.
I am working with a customer that is currently receiving CGM files exported from Catia ver. 4. The files are to be plotted on a flat bed plotting system with the text to be ink jet. My question is the following, when Catia exports to CGM does it flatten/merge the line path layer and text layer? Or will it preserve separate layers? If it does flatten/merge, is there another export format that would preserve individual layers.
The goal is to export to a format that is small enough to easily email but still contains two separate layers, one for text and the other containing the line paths. The first layer would be ink jet, then second layer plotted. The reason for doing it this way is due to time savings of ink jet vs. plotting. The separation can be done manually by the customer at the actual plotter but would make more sense for the engineer drafting the file to do it during creation of the file.
One last question, on export does Catia explode text or can it be left in a text box similar to what AutoCad does? In advance, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I very much appreciate it.
