Is there a way to mirror a catpart, have it as it's own catpart, (not linked to anything) and be able to alter catpart w/o getting thrown back to pre-mirror loc.?

Hi,

What I understood is that you what practically a new from CATPart, insert the whole tree in a body, mirror this body, and then modify some features in the tree.

Is it correct?

Yes. I want to know if I can take an exsisting Right-handed catpart. Mirror it to the left side and then alter it, for left-side only, without affecting the right-handed catpart the it was mirrored from.

Yes.

Copy -> Paste (in new CATPart) -> As Result with Link.

Then, just mirror it, and make your modifications accodingly. The basis for the mirrored part will always be the half you mirrored it from - but then that's what "mirror" parts are.

Hi,

Yes, it can be done if you proceed like I said.

The point is to create (mirror) the left handed part with all features of the original part, with new from procedure, but you will not have any link between left and right handed CATPart.

If you want to have a link between these CATParts, you need to copy-paste as result with link all features, mirror and then add new features to the mirrored CATPart.

It seems that I wrote in the same time, sorry solid7 :-

sleske,

After trying for awhile to do what you're trying to do, I've come to the conclusion that the best thing is the start from scratch and re-model the left side similar to the right-side.

The symmetry only works with both parts are exactly the same.

The time you save by using symmetry is lost when you try to edit the LH part.

The closest I've come to finding a good solution is to make a NEW FROM copy for the LH part, and then go through the features in the tree and do one of the following:

- reverse direction of Pads/Pockets
- symmetry sketches
- reverse draft direction
- etc.

PS: if you do have parts that are exact mirror images of each other, the symmetry tool in Assembly Design work pretty well.

Thanks All!
I'll give it a shot. Appreciate the replies.
