Catia V5 Non Native Sheet Bodies Tools for Turning into solids

Hello. My name is John.

We are using Catia V5 R21 the basic package. We receive complex .igs and .stp files from other Cad packages such as UG. In many instances these translations come in as "hollow" sheet bodies. No mass, volume etc... These "sheet bodies" have broken surfaces with many, many irregular shaped pieces that are hard to deal with on many levels.

What tools are available for repairing these surfaces and turning them into "solid models" now native to Catia and able to "hold water" ?
Can this be done in Catia V5?

If anybody has any suggestions I would honestly appreciate all help. I enjoy hearing from the folks in this forum since many tips are awesome and lead to other discoveries.

hello John, my name is Eric,

so you have many surfaces to turn into a solid.

First step is to join these surfaces with the ...JOIN function in Generative Shape Design workbench.

Once that is done you switch workbench to Part Design and create a solid feature from the JOIN surface using the Close Surface function.

Seams pretty easy, the trouble will be according to the inverse of the quality of the surfaces.
