Catia V5 to NX5 - Error

I have a couple of Catia V5 files, that I can only assume are "good".

The one just will not import (convert) to NX5 and the other gets so far then displays the message as seen in the attached image.

Are there any settings that can be tweaked, or further information as to what the cause of the error is ?

The customer would ideally like to supply native files.

I have had several problems with the Catia to NX translator. I always use the external translator because I do get less errors and it seems to be less taxing on the system. Another issue is that Catia V5 had different "R" numbers, ie. V5 r14. You may want to check which version the files are, this can be checked by reading the header by opening the file in wordpad. If the NX translator is not up to date to that level, it may not translate. I would call GTAC either way.

Unfortunately there is not a lot you can do.

At the time I checked out the catia-nx translator It lacked speed. I considered a catia license or cad doctor instead. In the end I went for the catia license the cost difference is too small in my opinion. The step translator in v5 works for me if I need to transfer files from one to the other.

Dave,

I tried both external and internal option, both fail.

For viewing purposes, I use Delcam Exchange, and this will open it (with a few warnings).

I've got two that wont translate.

I'd contact GTAC about it, but can't supply the data for confidentiality reasons.

Phill,

Do you have a Catia License and have you tried posting the same thing on the Catia part of eng tips. When you use translators from Catia, whatever you have shown is output, whereas when you try to load the file with this direct translator then you may get other results with a little more complexity to them. I wonder therefore if Catia users may know more than NX users do about your problems.

Cheers
