Cause of premature radiator failure? 1

My radiator developed a pinhole leak in its core in my '96 Ranger only 30 000 miles after installation. What would cause this? The technician claims that it was due to the worn engine that began to slowly lose compression at 150 000 miles.

I don't think i worn engine would do it, unless it has a blown head gasket and it's pressurizing the cooling system. Has the coolant been changed sometime during the life of the radiator?? Other than that the only things i can think of are it being hit by road debris, or a defective radiator.
