Caustic Stress Corrosion Cracking 1

Does caustic SCC look the same under the microscope as chloride SCC in terms of the spiderweb cracking of stainless steel from chloride SCC. Can't seem to find any pictures of caustic SCC online.

Don't forget that commercial caustic these days also contains a LOT of chloride. 1% Cl- isn't uncommon!

As to the metallurgical question, I have no idea!

Thanks for the replies. Metengr, very nice find. I'm aware of the 1% Cl, and wondering if a combination of the two would produce similar appearances of pipe failures. Guessing it would be a combination of transgranular and intergranular.

Well, not really.
What material are you looking at for caustic cracking, a steel?
CSCC in SS can look various ways depending on the temp and strain rate. In SS you will not get CSCC in caustic except for some very rate cases. The high pH usually precludes CSCC.
