Centerline Symbol AutoCAD 2000

Is there a way of using the centerline symbol in along with your text or just by itself in AutoCAD 2000? Any help will be appreciated.

If you right click in the text editor, doesn't it bring up a menu where "symbols" is a submenu that includes such symbols?

It's ... been a while... since I have used v2000 so I apologize if these are features that didn't exist then.
