Hello:

Does anyone know the recommended practice over choosing inlet and outlet piping to a centrifugal Compressor casing weather to be top / Bottom?

I know the Maintenance to the Compressor is 1 factor, but I cannot find something firm in the API 617 proving the choice over a certain size of casing, like lower you can do the Top, bigger casing sizing you can do the Bottom. Thanks.

There are a number of different shapes all associated with centrifugal compressors of one class or another. The inlet and outlet positions are all pretty much mandatory in the locations in which they are manufacturered depending on what class you buy. Casing size will depend on the capacity and inlet and outlet pressures you want. Elevation and orientation of the machine may be optional, but how you want to do that depends more on to what and where you are going to make connections.

Independent events are seldomly independent.
