centrifugal pump for viscous fluids

Currently we are using a positive displacement pump (gear pump) in order to pump viscous oils. We have got some problems with pulsation during pressure drop measurements, which needs to be very accurate, therefore we are investigating whether it is possible to use a different more smoothly running pump type.
The oil has a Newtonian viscosity range of up to 200cp.

Is it possible to use centrifugal pumps for this kind of viscosity? If yes does someone know suppliers (UK).
Maximum flow would be about 4000l/hr. Maximum pressure drop would be about 8 bar.

Yes centrifugals can be used well past 500 cP.

Easily done with a standard centrifugal din pump, say a 40-25-250, running at 3000 rpm.

On the other hand, you might consider a small 3 screw pump, they tend to run smoothly, and can handle ranges of viscosity with little change in delivered flow rate.

Something like the IMO series of pumps. They're very good for applications like this.

40 mm inlet dia.
25 mm discharge dia.
250 mm impeller dia.

A fairly standard pump size from a number of manufacturers.

I specifically looked at the Goulds model IC, because that's what I had available data on at the time, but anybody with a DIN standard pump will have something similar.

You may struggle with such a pump size as that particular size is not strictly speaking a DIN size pump,youll probably find a 50-32-250 more likely.
