I was wondering if anyone could describe the process by which ceramic coatings are applied to various engine surfaces? I'm particularly curious about how headers are done, but info any other component coatings would be neat too. Is the coating sprayed on, then autoclaved, or is there a more "high-tech" method involved? Anyone ever heard of a rattle-can ceramic coating (regardless of whether or not it's worth a hoot)?

Interesting Mike, You might already be reading it but I just posted something very similar.I am pretty sure most coatings are sprayed on with not much more than a spray type gun. Yes most good coatings are "baked" on on a "oven". Now there are some coatings that are metalsprayed or plasma sprayed onto the surface. One example would be to have a damaged shaft,it can be metalsprayed to build larger than original dimensions. Then it is turned back down to original size. What is great is you are not limited to "like" metals.Aluminium can be sprayed with stainless steel. It will not flake off,and there is no limit to what can be done.Good stuff. We will see what comes of my post. Craig
