Has anyone attained their CFPS certification? I've had the handbook(s) for several years now and they have been invaluable. I've purchased the 2008 Practice Exam and wish to pursue my own certification. Any tips? Have you found that being certified benefits you in any way?

Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, or other related discipline from an accredited college or university, plus two years of verifiable work experience dedicated to curtailing fire loss, both physical and financial.
Associate's degree in engineering, technology or other related discipline from an accredited college or university, plus four years of verifiable work experience dedicated to curtailing fire loss, both physical and financial.
High school diploma plus six years of verifiable work experience dedicated to fire loss, both physical and financial.

I had it and let it lapse. The test was really easy. It is open book straight from the fire protection handbook.

I only do fire sprinkler system shop drawings. I found that the insurance reviewers seemed to hold that certification higher than others, not sure why. It did not open any doors that my NICET IV certification would not. As such, I let it lapse.

Again, it is a pretty easy test. Get the certification if you want, it certainly can't hurt. I wouldn't waste the time on the primer course as I really don't think it is necessary. If you find it doesn't benefit your career, let it lapse. You can always go back and get it again.

Thanks Travis and CD.
It does look like it might be a nice shingle to hang on the wall, but if it has more aesthetic appeal than any real life usefulness I'm somewhat hesitant to invest any time or money into it.
