CGMs on Drawings - reducing the amounts of the entities

We get drawings from GM. They are 11x17s. Our general practice is to just create CGMs and put them inside of our company drawing format. What we run into is one of those 11x17s can become 6000+ entities. I'd like to find a way to reduce the size and keep the integrity of the drawings.

Or, is there a different method that would work better.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you.

make sure the "output text" is set to "text" and not "polylines"

You probably could play with you "image resolution" setting and see how that affects the file size, relative to the way the drawing looks to you. Our setting is on "draft" and the drawings look fine.

OK, I will adjust some of the output options.

Another thing I am trying now is creating custom symbols of the drawing. But I might run into when other people view our drawing, the symbols might not show up since they are saved locally on my machine.

Any other thoughts would be great.

Thank you.

In what format do you receive the drawings?
What is the downstream use of the drawings, for example, do you create toolpaths from them?

Cowski, I create the CGMS or save off the drawings from GM Teamcenter. We still print off drawings for our suppliers or plants. They use them to create the tools somehow.
