very new to forum. I have searched though 60 pages of topics and found some topics close to what i am looking for. I am looking for a easier way to have an already saved part/product's name change when I change there name in Catia. I don't need it to cycle through every product/part but just apply the name change on the selected item.

Hi, do you need macro to do it or?
For manual you need to use Save as and for product you must to go in save manager. If you want to go with a macro its very simple code, just take name from active part and do save as with a macro.
That is for part, for product it's little bit harder so, i recommend to do it manually.

You can check this post its very similar to your problem, also u can get idea for user interface and so on.

All the best.

I am currently using the SaveAs menthod or SaveAs from save management they both do the same thing. copy part name from tree -> save as-> paste name. Open save folder find old file name and delete to keep project folder clean. Not a huge deal when there are only a few parts/products but quickly becomes very tedious when there are a couple dozen or more. A single action macro to replicate the entire process would be nice.

Hi, yeah i understand, its boring process, you can check that macro i send you, you just need to make some simple corrections, but there is idea. To have clean folder you can just use Send to, from time to time, its not big deal. But you can delete that part from folder with a macro too, its not a problem.

All the best.

are these parts and assemblies used in other assemblies? are there drawings based on these files?

the drawing are based on the files, if the parts and assemblies are used from another assembly or in another assembly any link are already broken and the part is saved under its new assembly. We have a drawing layout stand that we try to adhere to and during the design process it is difficult to impossible to tell what balloon number will end up on what part/assembly when we do our drawings. So after the drawing is complete we go back and change a portion of the part number to match its drawing balloon number. This gives us a easy reference between drawing item/balloon # and assembly/parts name.

I was worried about losing links when you rename files, but it sounds like that's not a problem for you.
