Change how NX saves new drawing file

Using NX9, when I create a new drawing it defaults to the prefix _dwg, is there a setting by which I can change what this defaults as?

In the customer defaults -> gateway -> general -> file new there are options to change this value or turn it off completely.

Since NX doesn't distinguish between its files ( parts) it's quite handy to include the usage in the name.

I.e NX uses the same type of file for all purposes, modeling , drafting, assemblies, sheet metal etc.
The exception is simulation files which get other file name extensions than .prt.
( Even if i suspect that the file itself still is identical to a .prt)

To what / how would you like to change the "dwg" ?

Look again to the place Cowski described, the entry you look for is the "Drafting Parts" ( = "dwg")
Above this section is the setting to define the "file name separator" = "_"

Sorry you misunderstand me, I was thanking him for pointing me there so I could find it.
Not that I had looked and couldn't as this is what I had previously done.
