Hi,
I want to change an imported features color...I've tried to chg part, feature and body appearance color...didn't work...
the only way to change the color was by selecting each individual surface. The part is a plastic enclosure with ribs, bosses, holes...it has a lot of surfaces. I do not have the original file that it was imported from. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Could be the faces came in with their own color already.

I have a program that is part of a VB turotial in-the-making. It can be found at < The file to download is MakeAddinFromExeVB.zip. There is an .exe named "ScrubFaces.exe" that will purge color settings from all faces on all bodies.

[bat]Due to illness, the part of The Tick will be played by... The Tick.[bat]

Tick,

Does your program scrub textures as well as colors? We have some texture-happy users who's parts are now wreaking havoc in large ass'ys. I have not found a quick way to remove all textures in a part.

Haven't messed with that. The program was written for the purpose of having a simple .exe app to turn into an addin. If you have access to a full version of VB, all the source code is there to play with.

Tick,
Where have you been all my life...worked perfectly...Thanks so much.

Beside the macro approach there is another easy way to select all faces to clear the color: select the face filter (standard shortcut is x), then switch graphic display to wireframe (not hidden line, pure wireframe), then select the complete model with a huge a rubber-band box.

Now all faces are selected and you can call the color property manager page.

For the removal of textures on faces use the same trick; there are no API calls (yet) for that, I have an Api related SPR for that:

SPR 183041 - "Need API to get/set/remove SolidWorks display texture information"

SWCADMAN,

Since this is an imported feature, did it come in as a solid or surfaces? If it came in as a solid you should be able to change its color the way you tried. It sounds to me like you might not have a solid, in which case TheTick and berlitz have listed good solutions for surfaces.

Berlitz,
Very nice...Thanks...that approach opened all new possibilties in my endevour to be a great SW CAD operator.
