Change in my question about Smart fasteners

I just posted a question about smart fasteners. Please ignore that one. The following is the revised version:

First I will state the objective of my exercise:
I needed 2 rows of 5 holes each. The second row is exactly the same as the first row. 5 holes in any given row are not evenly spaced. Final objective is to put fasteners through all the 10 holes.

Now this is how I went about doing this:
I decided that I can't make one hole and then pattern it using Feature Pattern because the distance between the 5 holes in one row is not the same. So I sketched 5 points and then used the hole wizard to create 5 holes. Then, since the second row is exactly the same as the first row, I just used Linear Feature Pattern to pattern the first row and that's how I got my second row of holes.

So far so good. But I ran into problems when I started inserting fasteners. I selected the first original row of holes (that appears as one entity in FeatureManager) and I was able to insert fasteners in all 5 holes at the same time. Then I tried to insert fasteners into the 2nd row (the one that I patterned using the first row) and it won't work!!

Lastly, I tried to select the holes in the 2nd row individually and insert fasteners in them but to my surprise that doesn't work either. I got the message "All hole series have smart fasteners".

Please suggest what I can do.

If you highlight the original hole (first hole) and insert the fastener in there you should get the option Populate all. But if you didn't use the hole wizard to make your holes, then you won't.

I made the first row of holes using hole wizard. But the second row was made by patterning the first row of holes. Please suggest.

Eliminate the patterned second row. Create the second row at the same time as the first using the Hole Wizard.

In this case, I can afford to do that because I have only 2 rows. What if I had 50 rows? It would be almost impossible to do that manually. Doesn't smart fasteners insert fasteners in patterned holes?

I do not like or use Toolbox, so I do not use Smart Fasteners, so I cannot answer your last question.

A Linear sketch step & repeat can be used to pattern the points used to create the first row of holes, whilst still within the Hole Wizard.

I usually use the hole wizard to make the first hole only, then pattern that hole using either the Sketch driven or Linear pattern driven method.

If I don't use Tolbox, what way do I have to insert fasteners? I am a new user of toolbox myself. I also noticed that I can't ctrl-drag the fastener (that has been inserted using Smart Fasteners) to create more instances. Is that correct?

Draw your own fasteners and add your three mates. Putting a mate reference on the fastener will allow you to get the coincident and concentric mates done with drag-and-drop leaving only the constraint to prevent rotation (if you want to "fully" constrin it).

Making my own fasteners could be very cumbersome I think (making SHCS, hex heads etc). Plus, I will have to go about getting the dimensions of all of them as I will be using different kinds. Is there no other way to use smart fasteners?

The TB parts already has the Mate references in there. It's just easier to use the TB instead of making your own.
