Hi
I would be grateful to anyone that could help me with my project.

I have an 8 wheel drive argo type ATV which has a Honda GX620 20 hp engine connected via CVT to the gearbox.

I would like to remove the gearbox and connect a hydraulic tandem pump to the engine (bigger engine if needed. The pumps would each drive a hydraulic motor that would be controlled separately by joysticks (wire or electric, unsure).

My problem is tying to understand what cc of motor and what ci pump combination would best suit my needs. the machine weighs about a ton including 2 passengers and hopefully a harvested deer, Machines weight is about 800kilo's, it is 9' long by 4.5' wide with 8 wheels. Its max speed would be 20mph, we are talking more torque than speed. my engine is 3600rpm.

I would like to use variable displacement pump and motors.

I live in the Scottish borders, would gladly swap some venison for the information to get me starting to source bits and pieces.

I realise I will need other things like Tank and filter, any other things I have missed, I am all ears.
Just noticed I can upload a file.

Thanks for reading
Regards
Ian

Hello Ian...

Seems like you need a nice compact hydrostatic drive system.

Have you any idea of the torque you need(at the wheels)?

Have you any idea of the power output of the engine, or the torque at 3600 RPM?

We need to know the power that is available before we can size the pumps or motors.

When we know what power is available to us, we can look at how big the motors need to be produce enough torque whilst maintaining sufficient speed.

There are all sorts of ways of doing what you need to do, how much money do you want to spend?
