Changing heat flux rapidly causes the simulation to diverge

Hello,

I am currently working on a Subroutine, which would dynamically change the heat flux inside the material depending on the temperature. If I change the heat flux within 1 step from 5 to 0 (example values), it would crash. It works if I change it from 5 to 3 though. I'm pretty new to subroutines and working with those, so any help would be great!

Does it happen only when you turn the heat flux off ? What is the error message that you get when the analysis crashes ? Are there any additional warnings in output files generated by Abaqus ?

It seems to be caused by a too rapid change in Heat Flux
The message is "HEAT FLUX EQUILIBRIUM NOT ACHIEVED WITHIN TOLERANCE."

The issue is, I would have to change it to zero at some point throughout the simulation (to be exact, as soon as all the heat will be exhausted)
Is there a way to change the heat flux to zero, without having the following issue?
