Provided I use the values in a supporting PQR can I change the actual and range qualified values? ie weld deposited thickness and base metal thickness.
Thanks

I assume that you mean the WPS can be changed to reflect qualified thicknesses per ASME IX. In that case yes. The PQR must reflect the actuals essential variables used/mesured.

Hi Weldstan,
Actually I wanted to change the values in the wpq so a given welder had a broader range of thickness to deposit metal. And yes within the range of the pqr.
Thanks

Unless the Welder in question actually welded the PQR, they are separate qualifications.

Hi David,
Thanks, So I guess what I'm asking is can I use the range in the WPS or PQR (which one) to qualify my welder, by simply changing the value on the WPQ?

No, you cannot do that.

The welder's qualification test has nothing to do with the PQR (or WPS for that matter), unless as david stated, the welder performed the welding for the PQR qualification also.

The welder's range of thickness qualified is based solely upon the thickness of the test coupon that was used during his qualification test.

The devil is in the details; she also wears prada.

Just to add to DVWE, the range of thicknesses/testing requirements are found in QW-452 for groove welds.

Sorry folks, I failed to mention that within my material thickness can I input a higher deposition of filler metal with a given process provided I have a supporting pqr to support it?

The first thing you should do is use proper terminology so people understand what you are talking about.
WPQ ?
You have posted in the ASME forum so try using ASME terminology !

Hey DekDee,
WPQ = Welding Performance Qualification.
You know what I'm talking about a welder's certification.
Seems you might want to brush up on yours. (terminology)
