Changing Parts List component attributes 1

I've tried to solve this on my own, and I give!
When I create an assembly, even though I add components in my preferred order, the parts list always reflects a different Item ordering. Apparently, the CALLOUT properties attribute controls this column. When I manually change the values of this attribute, the parts list won't update to reflect the changes, nor are the new values permanent.
What is the correct way to change the Item ordering of an assembly's basic components?

You can select the Parts List note and press MB3 and there is a 'Sort' option which will allow you to sort by any column in the Parts List. Now if it's not convenient to use one of the existing columns and yet you want absolute control, for whatever reason, may I suggest that you add an additional attribute to your components (this can be done in the assembly itself by selecting the components in the Assembly Navigator, pressing MB3 and selecting 'Properties'. I would suggesting using letters (A, B, C, etc.).

Now add this column to your parts list but make it zero width (you can do this using the 'Resize' option after selecting the column in the Parts List). Despite the fact that you cannot see this column, it can still be used to control the 'sorting' of the Parts List note.

This is the sort of thing that most people would change inside their template files. Then you can rightly forget about it!

Thank you, John. So you are saying I cannot change the CALLOUT attribute values of the components? The standard parts list begins with a <W$=@CALLOUT> column labeled "PC NO" (I use "Item"), which is pretty standard. I would prefer to use and sort on this column, if possible.

If you are trying to control the callout used for a particular part (and thus the order of the components in the parts list), you might find these threads useful:

I usually resort to 'cut & paste' of the Parts List Rows.

If you are running Teamcenter then the item order can be set in the PSE (Product Structure Editor).

Here's how ...
* Make sure you do not have the assembly open.
* Within your assembly navigate to the "BOMView Revision" object.
(The relevant icon has a blue, green and pink square connected by 'flow-chart' lines)
* Double click this to open in PSE.
(or right click > send to > PSE)
* Then change the "Sequence No." to reflect your preferred order of parts.
* Save
* Open the assembly

This is probably the simplest way IMHO but please shout if someone see's a problem with doing this!

Just re-reading my previous post ... for clarity the second bullet point should read ...

* Within TEAMCENTER, navigate to the "BOMView Revision" object in your assembly.

ps ... can you edit a 'submitted' post?
