Changing rotation of Bluffton 3PH Motor.

Hi All,

I have the stangest problem, I cant change Rotation of 3PH motor.

Swapping 2 Phases together didn't help.

We used the same type of motor (it looks the same but different name Franklin or so.)and the same label with connection diagrame, it always works, but not this time,
and its not one but 8 Identical motors, all have the same problem.!

Mod. 1313017112
Bluffton
2HP wired for low voltage 230v, 3 Ph

L1 with 1,7
L2 with 2,8
L3 with 3,9
4,5,6 together

Also Tryed too play with swapping 1 and 4
means
L1 with 4,7
L2 with 2,8
L3 with 3,9

1,5,6 Together.
Result blown 2 fuse.

Please reply if you have any idea what happening or how to fix this problem, delivery of product with this motors monday, after 2 days

Did the mess something inside? how to fix?

All you did was reverse one winding, not a good thing to do. What you did need to do would be something like;

L1 - 2,8
L2 - 1,7
L3 - 3,9

That's what is meant by swapping phases.

In my post I tryed to explain that swapping phase didn't work, L1 with L2, L1 with L3 Tryed all the combinations.

I do this on a daily basis, with different motors, never had a problem!

This is not a typical problem.
 
Check your incoming voltages for a missing phase.
Check if this is a delta connected motor.
Wye connections have continuity between three wires in one group.
Delta connected motors have continuity between three wires in three groups.

Whenever i try to play with connections, like reversing polarity of 1,4 and keeping everything the same, 2 fuse will blow, I replace them with new ones, so voltage is not an issue, it is a star motor positive, 7,8,9 are all connected.

I figured out that there are 8 ways to connect the polarity of the windings,

will try tomorrow, but what if not the polarity is wrong but the location of winding is wrong, like instead od 1-4 I have 3-6, and so on.

But the existing configuration, works fine, not blowing fuses, but opposite direction.

I've found on internet a way to identify all the leads using DC battery and voltmeter.

Will see if it works.



 
Reconnect the motor according to the nameplate. Now switch line one with line two. When we say interchange any two leads to reverse rotation, we mean the supply leads, L1, L2, and L3.
DON'T CHANGE THE CONNECTIONS OF THE NINE MOTOR LEADS.

Not Working.


Have a strong feeling that they messed up something in the factory.

#6 and #9 are sometimes interchanged. You should have continuity between #6 and #3 and continuity between #9 and #7 and #8.
Are you sure that the motor is not reversing? Can you see the shaft? A centrifugal pump will pump in either direction and reach full pressure into a closed valve. The performance of the reverse driven pump falls off quickly as the valve is opened and flow starts.

I think waross you got it right.
Problem was in the power unit pump, motor was starting in proper direction, then reversed in power unit.

When motor was disconnected from power unit problem disapeared.

So motor was fine.
