Has anyone had experience with Char Lynn J Series Reversable Hydraulic Motors? When operated do they make significantly more noise when rotating in one direction versus the opposite direction?

I would not expect any significant difference in noise level. They should be fairly quiet in any case.

Valuable advice from a professor many years ago: First, design for graceful failure. Everything we build will eventually fail, so we must strive to avoid injuries or secondary damage when that failure occurs. Only then can practicality and economics be properly considered.

Thanks for the response. I bought a new Char Lynn J Series hydraulic motor and it produces significantly more noise operating in one direction versus the other. I have been unsucessful in getting Parker/Char Lynn to address the issue.

Char-Lynn is affiliated with Eaton not Parker. I have not used J series Char-Lynn motors but all of the others that I have used are always relatively quiet in both directions and under all load and speed conditions. The low noise is due to the "Gerotor" configuration and its relatively gentle flow patterns.

Your right, I meant Eaton, not sure why I was thinking Parker.

Because Parker own everything else..?

I agree with ccfowler, the motor should be quiet in both directions.

I would check the pipework before rejecting the motor. It may be struggling to fill/empty in one direction. That will make it noisy. Load in each direction could also make a difference.
