Hello dear friends. Im having trouble understanding how to do material damage characterization.

I have experimental tensile tests data and experimental results on a cyclic tests of a steel device.

I want to apply this concept to characterize the damage of the material, via ductile damage.

Can someone help me to understand the parameters of fracture strain and damage evolution (damage parameter/displacement). I can give more detailed information of the problem. Thank you

In order to understand the meaning of these parameters, it's necessary to look at the equations defining damage initiation and evolution criteria for ductile metals used in Abaqus. The best source of information is the software documentation. Check the chapters titled "Damage initiation for ductile metals" and "Damage evolution and element removal for ductile metals". Apart from that, it's good to read some articles discussing this topic. For example "A numerical study of the behaviour and failure modes of axially compressed steel columns subjected to transverse impact" by H. Al-Thairy.
