Apparently, PDMWorks will not allow you to select multiple documents to perform functions (take ownership, change project, open, check out, etc.) When checking out files that do not reference one another is it ever possible to do it all at once? Or must they be selected individually?

Can you reference SW docuements to each other? I have some parts/assy's that aren't part of my assembly in PDMWorks but I still want them to check out or be copied when the assembly is. Any suggestions? I noticed the "Add reference option" only appears for non-SW documents.

Thanks

Why would you want parts that are not related to your assembly referencing it?

Multiple document operations can only be done by the PDM Admin

"Why would you want parts that are not related to your assembly referencing it?"

We put together large pump system assy's which include x-number of route sub-assemblies for sections of piping. When we copy an existing system to modify it into a new one, we want the same route files to reference the new system assy and have new names to match.

We decided that if an approved system had (for example) 2 route assemblies and 2 route parts total, then we would have a folder for that project called "D12345 Blank Route Files" and put equal number of blank (route) part and assy files in there so that when someone else copied it, they could use those blank files to more effectively "save-as" the system and its "in-context" files to the new project number.

What I would like to do is attach the blank files to the top-level assy (by reference in PDMWorks?) so that when I open the assembly, they along with all the other parts, etc. will come with it.

Even if I get that straight, I am still having trouble successfully saving over the "read-only" files to the new project number. Must I do it the old-fashion way through the reference dialog box, and double clicking each and every.....which by-the-way, prompts you to pick a file, not create a new one (hence the blank files)

I also tried PDMWorks "copy projects." It seems you can rename the project, sub-projects, and parts and assemblies directly in them, but not children of assemblies. Which is of no use to me if I can rename my system assembly but not the route sub-assemblies.

Do you know something I don't about "copy project"? Or does anyone else use PDMWorks and route files this way who could give me some tips? Maybe I need to put my route subassemblies and their parts in seperate sub-projects as well so that they can be renamed upon "Copy project"?
