We spec'd out GA Series 250 Air cushioned swing check valves.

The contractor submitted val matic surgebuster tilted disc check valves.

Application is raw water. There are several locations throughout the delivery system where the valves will be needed...mostly 12", flows base 2604 gpm.

Any one have experience with the val matic?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!!!

No experience with this type, but what you really should do is to look into the alternative, and possible best construction to minimize headloss and power consumtion, together with minimizing pressure peaks when closing:

non slam nozzle check valves.

Try google on Erhard (tyco Waterworks) and Goodwin Noreva.

You will find lower headloss than given for your alternatives and simpler construction, together with the fact that the valve is designed to be closed from the instant pressure is equalized on both sides of the valve, giving a soft 'non-slam' closing.

This type of valve is also better suited to a wider flow range than alternative types.

 
I am wondering if a "surgebuster" is fully open at 2604 gpm = 7.6 ft/s. If it isn't fully open, the weight of the disk may create chattering in the flow with the risk of the rubber disk to break off.
A Noreva nozzle check valve will be for sure fully open to guarantee proper operation.
Nozzle check valves should be installed in fairly clean applications, is your raw water filtered or strained somehow?
