New Jersey code requires a solenoid valve (for emergency shut-off) and a check valve on natural gas piping serving classrooms. Can anyone tell me why they require this check valve?

Thanks,
Ken

I'm guessing the check valve is intended to stop the flow of water into the gas system.

Given the presence of students, it's inevitable that gascocks and faucets will be connected with rubber hoses, probably at least once a year per school.

Didn't think of that but it certainly make sense.

Thanks Mike!
