check valve on end of pump outlet

Hi,

I was hoping i could get some help on placing a twin plated wafer check valve on the end of a pump rated at 300m3/h. The pipe diameter is 200 mm, 8". I've tried to obtain as many data sheets with CV numbers etc,

I want to calculate the pressure head losses. The valve is ideally placed 5 to 10 diameters away from the discharge end of the pump but it will be a lot less than that.

Any alteratives would be great along with ideas.

head loss for the valve or the pipeline and valve?
 
I have had air locking in pumps where the check valve was at a distance from the pump and low suction heads were encountered, especially if the discharge pipe takes a vertical direction. My preference has always been to place the check valve as close as possible to the discharge. We are talking centrifugal pumps of course.

I haven't had any problems with direct attachment to pump discharge, although in the case of removal of the pump for maintenance without blowing down the discharge, my preference is to have a block valve between pump and check.
