I have written a technical document and with another in the process. These have been created more for personal interest than for making money. I am wondering how people have in the past gone about getting people to review these technical documents. I have tried a few different methods and to date they are not working.

Review for correctness, or review as in "Read my paper like any other tech journal article"?

rowingengineer,

You can post it on a website, then tell people about it. I have an article on calculating geometric tolerances on my website, and I get occasional feedback on it.

Your website should be listed on your resume. Your article ought to impress people who consider hiring you.

If you are going to publish in a technical journal or a magazine supported by a technical organization, those are usually peer reviewed after your initial submittal.

If you are going to publish in a publication that does not require peer review, then their editors will check for spelling and formatting; but not for content.

You might try creating a review checklist and comment form; then post your paper here for some critical review through posting commentary. Keep the form brief so that the posts may be brief as well.

I have a person I use to check all my reports for spelling ect. I wouldn't get by without them.

My main problem is getting the technical content review, it is fairly detailed in nature and I am concerned that maybe I have stuffed a technical explanation, or I'm just plain wrong.

I have thought about the form Ron, but it is too long to expect engtips to help and would be asking to much oh the MVP's.

I have thought about sending to another author of similar content and offering them a small fee to review my work.

RE...do you intend to publish this in a journal? If so it will be refereed and reviewed for technical content.

we use ITR (Independant Technical Review) all the time. This can be done within your company or by an independant consultant. Either way, expect to pay for a few hours of work, depending on the size of the project. You should make sure the reviewer is technically qualified to review the project or you will be throwing your money away.
