Dear Experts

Could you please let me know why some chemicals needs to be dosed to water heating and cooling close loop?
Is there a manual for understanding this subject from basic?

Usually for corrosion inhibition / biological dosing.

No manual - just good operating practice.

Thank you for the response,

if then the loop is closed how corrosion can be occured?
Does microb or bacteries cause corrosion/ scale or reason is something else?

Because at some point you need to fill it or top it up with fresh aerated water. But that's why you don't need to add very much.

Also every now and then part of the system gets drained and you introduce more fresh water.

Also some bacteria are aneorobic or are sulphur reducing. They can be very nasty and cause a lot of "sludge" to form.

For higher temp systems anti scale is also a good reason

There are books from various treatment companies.
I have the Nalco water handbook that I refer to.
On the corrosion control side you typically adjust pH and add scale or corrosion inhibitors.
Biological control is a major issue and is usually the more difficult one.
Part of this is because of all of the trash that an open cooling tower collects.
