In my Company they're trying to rationalize the internal work order program and, whit that, the possible inputs for Customer reference data: Project name, type of Industry, plant Location, Engineering and End-User companies, etc...
This would mean to amend the data resulting from many years of uncontrolled data entry (containing also typing errors, mismatches, blanks and so on), with both paper archive and internet search work.

I was wondering if there is an alternative to such an hard-working approach... Are there any general databases containing the names of all the Projects worldwide?
The type of Industries are so many, but Oil & Gas and Chemical plants alone would cover the great majority of the job (we could customize and complete the database with Power Generation, Mining and Pulp & Paper projects...).

I don't expect to be so lucky as to find a free-ware source on the web (!)... but I imagine that one or more Company selling such information must exist ;-)

What is your definition of a "project"?

Is project a new plant? Or, would a booster station also qualify?

Is there a dollar value? Is there a time window you are interested in? Geographical considerations?

Just curious.

Ashereng,
I would refer to the "official" names the Engineering (and/or End-User) companies give to the projects, without regard for the dimension (at the moment): so a project could be a new plant, a line doubling, the construction of one or more new trains of an existing LNG terminal, the expansion of an existing oil field, but also a set of debottlenecking, revamping or improvement operations.

The time window could be the last 20 years (just to give an idea); no geographical area in particular.

The purpose should be to re-organize our historical registry data and to provide guidance to input the new ones in a ordered, methodical way (in order to minimize errors and obtain a "searchable" Sales database)...

I also found some other sites that I signalled to the people in charge for this job:

anegri,

I see. Thank you for the information.

I would think that a lot of the projects that I have worked on, the data for them would not be make freely available on the net to the public. I would imagine that most of the project information would be proprietary. The exception would be the official corporate announcements, which would be on record with the newpapers and other outlets.
