Chiller piping and Loops 1

Hi ,

i need to clarify some thing , i have a main chilled water supply and chilled water return pipe on roof top , this main pipe's are feeding 24 typical shafts .

i have 4 floors , when the risers reaches after distribution to last floor at the end ( since i have a Closed loop they are connected to each other )

now i have to provide a drain connection for the risers ( in case of maintenance ) i use a tee @ the center[highlight #CC0000] ( please Check the attachment )[/highlight] and a ball valve and plus when the main pipe on roof top take's a branch for 1 shaft i have gate valves ,

please check the attachment for image and give me your valuable comments if this design is ok or i need to add more valves or i missed some thing

If your individual floors have their own pump then it will work, but otherwise you shouldn't connect the flow to the return. I would add some vent valves at the to so you can drain water out and also bleed air when you refill.

no i don't have individual pump , i have main primary and secondary pump on roof top only , but its a closed loop piping so supply is connected to the return at the very end . is there any other valves or joints required in the risers ??

Connecting the supply and return can be used to ensure continuity of flow but needs to be controlled to be a small flow otherwise all the flow can go this way and not via the AHUs.

Add vents at the high point so you can drain down and vent out air when you refill.

what you ask for is not a clarification, you aim to learn engineering from tips forum and that is not a way to go. that's why senior and junior engineer positions exist, you need senior engineer, a mentor, from you you can learn for years until getting command of basics and be able to do on your own. yes, it takes years to learn all basics, there is no way around.

You need to be able to control the pressure in the risers as the floor loads fluctuate. How you do that depends on information you have not provided (or at least I was unable to see because I couldn't see all the pictures), there are several ways to do it.

I have to agree with Drazen and HVACMech, knowing how to best control your flow comes from experience and that is best coming from a senior engineer.
