Question:
So what I have is a chinesse steel beam 915x407x13x20 (depthxheightxwebxflange). The problem I have here is that it is 60 ft long with 2 - 50kip loads 15ft of center. not that this is a reallt big problem or anything but the beam is on its side(weak axis). I figure if anyone even trys to pick this beam up it will bend quite alot. How would you pick this up?
Options:
I would weld another plate on either side to make it a box beam in both locations where the 2 50kip concentrated loads are? Is there any other method you would go about strenthening a beam to pick it up from the weak axis?
Mike
