Chrome over nitride surfaces can be easily achieved but removal of the "white layer" first. The nitrogen layer is non-conductive. You cannot nitride after chrome and expect positive results since the ions will bounce off the surface of the chrome and not penetrate the substructure. I came across an earlier post on this subject and wanted to clarify in case anyone has any questions. Several automotive companies will have their large stamping dies nitride and once they are properly seated in, they will have them hard chrome plated. Increasing the hardness of the surfacce insures an improved bond of the chrome plating and adhesion.
