chrome thickness for lip seal wear surface

Is there a minimum or maximum recommended "working" thickness of chrome for the contact surface of a shaft and viton lip seal ? I figure we initially need some "extra " to allow finishing, and to compensate for variations in the machining that reduces shaft diameter prior to chroming.
