Can anyone provide ballpark numbers for estimating the cost of CIP retaining walls?

This particular wall is approximately 10 ft high x 130 ft long. It is in the southeastern U.S. Not sure if it makes a difference for cost, but it is for the residential sector.

For budgetary numbers, our state DOT suggests that we use $135/sf for CIP retaining wall. This includse excavation, embankment, concrete and rebar.

Wow, that's expensive. How about MSE block walls? How do they compare price wise?

It has been our experience that an MSE wall is almost always less expensive than CIP. In a recent project it was half the cost but we are in the midwest.

For MSE Walls our DOT suggests we use a budgetary number of $95/sf. This number is increased to $125/sf for extreme urban areas.

This includes excavation, embankment, concrete leveling pads, precast panels and straps, drainage conduits, granular backfill, concrete coping on top of the wall and concrete sealing. No testing or barrier (sleeper slab) of any type is included.

We are located in the midwest too.

DOT work can be way more expensive than private industry, the costs may be considerably less. these "budgetary numbers" seem high. another DOT in the southwest gives actual bid numbers closer to $40 - $90 per sq ft of wall (2008 - 2010), not including structural excavation or backfill.

above for reinforced cconcrete walls...

MSE with steel or geosynthetic reinforcement?

MSE with steel reinforcement installed price can range from $40 - $90/sf, to maybe as high as $125 like "3Fan" said. Prices are very dependant on project location, size, etc.

A MSE with geosynthetic reinforcement can range from $20 - $40/sf of face installed.
