How can one make a circular pattern of an axially drilled hole on a part around its symmetri axis? This may seem as a trivial question, but i will not make 7 datum planes to make 14 axially drilled holes... anyone?

I think in CAE there are 2 approaches:

1. When sketching the base feature, use the Radial pattern to place the hole profiles in the initial sketch. The part will contain the holes from the beginning.

2. If you created a part without any holes, then you have to create another part with the shape of the hole.

Further, in Assembly module create instances for both the base part and the part representing the hole. Position the "hole" part instance as you need and then use Radial pattern to create additional "hole" part instances. In the end, use Merge/Cut Instances to subtract the "hole" part instances from the base part.

Thank you for a well formulated reply... But I want to make a part with eg 14 counterbores, that means I have to do the extrusion cut in three operations no matter if I do point 1. or 2. If i could just make one cut revolve in the base plane and then rotate the feature 14 times around the symmetry axes, it would be much easier... Is there some other way of doing this?

You should model the "hole" as a separate solid part. You can use a Revolution type base feature and sketch the hole detailed profile in an axial plane.

Once you created the solid (filled) representation of the "hole", use the second approach I mentioned.
