I am new to Solid works 2007 and although I have produced a ring of holes with one missing on one end of my component, when I have sketched the first hole on the opposite end, working around the same axis I always get a rebuild error "The intended hole does not intersect the model. Please recreate the feature ------" I havn't a clue what this means as the hole in question can be seen in cross section in the component. Can any-one help please? Why are error messages in code?

Check to make sure that the direction of your cut is correct.

Make sure that ALL the holes cut into the material.

I think there are sometimes problems if your hole locations are contained in a 3D sketch which sometimes happens if you do not select a face before starting the hole wizard.

Remember, first define the problem, then solve it.

Many thanks to you all for your help. In the end as my component is symetrical about a centre line, I decided to create a plane through the centre and mirrored the holes on the opposite end. In hindsite I could have drawn half of the component and mirrored the whole thing. I still think in terms of the drawing board and 2D cad. Most of my drawing is using ExpertCad (the old Cimcad) which is more than adequate for 99% of my requirements.

If you model with logical symmetry about the origin you usually don't need to create additional workplanes. I recommend you attach the file here even if you have solved the problem for your needs as you are likely to get improved techniques from others that you can use in your next design.
