Does any one have a method for designing circular and.or spiral concrete stairs?

Helical stairs are an absolute nightmare. Check out the Reinforced Concrete Designers Handbook by Reynolds and Steedman (the bible!).

Today is not so dificult, since you can model the stairs both as line elements and with thick plate elements in one 3D able package such RISA 3D. You only need to provide restraint enough at the ends and so proper boundary conditions. The line "bea,-column" elements can be enough, yet simplify the resisting part to a central chord or rectangular spiral strip, and don't forget include lodcases for eccentrical loadings in number enough, and their combinations. This way you will have ready methods for design of the shapes be it in steel or reinforced concrete.

It is sometimes nice to be able to design without a computer though!

DGpe,

If you are not having any luck I could possible email an extract from the RC designers manual.

I have Staad Pro. However, so far I've only learned two dimensional modeling. And as a one-man firm I can't afford the time roght now for the learning of 3-D modeling. Ajuk, I'd appreciated if you can e-mail the an extract from the RC manual...Thanks.
My email is dgpe@bellsouth.net

DGpe, I also have staad/pro and i would like to try to create the 3D model for you just send me your data include the loads if possible. I taught myself staad modeling and analysis so any problem or case i can grab i appreciate very much. By the way, i'm also a one man firm & i understand the limitations/difficulties that's why I'm willing to extend assistance.

As an exercise, it would be interesting to compare the results between the manual method and computer analysis. When done, please post a few comments?

To Ajuk, thanks for the information. I have decided to model the stair in Staad Pro aldo. Once I finish it I will post the comparison qir=th the RC Manual.

Hi all you , a time ago I got from this site the
