civil 3d surface modeling from a topo map

Hi,
Can someone please help me. I'm trying to model a 3d surface from a topographic map in autocad civil 3d. The surface is the location of a site development for a proposed building. I was informed that civil 3d can help me to quickly deal with the grading and drainage if I was able to get the surface in the software.

Civil 3D has a steep learning curve. If you're starting from zero knowledge and don't have time for a training course, then I would recommend running through the tutorials that come with the program. They will give you a good foundation for using the program and probably run through most of what you'll need to grade a site, but there is no magic "Grading & Drainage" button that will do it for you.

If you have learned the fundamentals in a college surveying course, you s/b able to do it in 2D without the need for civil 3D.
