Cl SCC Inquiry

Hello All

I did ask same question before but this time I will be very specific to MOC Inquiry.

As per our current setup of MOC, we want to use Glass Reinforced FRP Epoxy, CPVC for piping and C.S (rubber/brick lined) for Tanks/agitators. Could some one be sure that these Materials resist Chloride SCC???

The operating conditions are:

-20%HCL (Dilute)
-Temp: 85 C
-PH=4(acidic as max value)
-chlordie%=1.6-2.0%.

An IR/SBR hard rubber lining should be resistant against the acid and the chlorides at given temperature. But you should get this confirmed by the company which will do the hard rubber lining. They usually have the knowledge to assist you in this matters.

I can't help you with the FRP epoxy and CPVC question but I hope somebody else can.

CPVC is not suitable for 85 C continuous pressurized duty in my opinion.

Chloride SCC is a metals problem and does not apply to non-metallics.

SCC is a problem with materials like austenitic stainless steel but not for carbon steel.
