Hi

Can anyone tell me the reason why on the same service and almost same conditions, sometimes cladding and on other time lining is done?

Any website link regarding information on cladding/lining and their comparison?

Thanks

The choice of cladding versus lining of pressure retaining items primarily depends on cost. Cladding can be applied by welding, roll forming or by explosive bonding. In this case, the corrosion resistant barrier is directly attached or bonded to the substrate.

For lining (which is similar to wall papering except no adhesive is used), the corrosion resistant barrier is not directly bonded to the substrate, instead the ends of the lining are seal welded.

Here is a thread for starters on this subject;

Does the originator mean metallic "lining"? Very often, the term means the use of non-metallic coatings. In the metallic sense, lining could be a problem in a vessel that could pull a vacuum. In pipelines, lining presents difficulties for bending, for manufacturing branches etc.
